Facilitated Stretch
Facilitated Stretch involves gently guiding the dog’s limbs and body into a stretch with the goal of improving flexibility, muscle relaxation and increase in the range of movement. The limbs of the dog are gently guided into a stretch, where the position is held for a short period, before the stretch is released. It is often used as part of the massage session, but can be used alone if required.
Improved flexibility - helps muscles and soft tissues to lengthen allowing for an increased range of motion.
Relaxation - can help release muscle tension and improve circulation.
Pain relief - can help to alleviate pain associated with stiffness.
Injury prevention - may help prevent injuries by improving flexibility and range of motion.
This type of massage is particularly good for dogs who have a heart murmur, as a more traditional massage can put pressure on the heart.
